What affects RAM usage

Server type: mods and modpacks need several times more memory than Vanilla or Paper.
Players online: each player loads the chunks around them — more players, more RAM.
View and simulation distance: high values sharply increase the load.
Don't give all memory to Java — leave headroom for the OS and set Aikar's flags.
