Modded server hosting is a different story from a vanilla server. Modpacks with hundreds of mods load the CPU and disk hard, world generation stretches out, and RAM disappears faster than you'd expect. Elysium deploys mods on Ryzen + NVMe Gen4 with one-click modpack installs — so you play the pack instead of fighting its setup.
Why mods are harder to host
A vanilla or Paper plugin server is predictable. A modpack isn't. Every mod adds its own entities, blocks, machines, recipes and worldgen logic. Together that means:
- more CPU load — machine ticks, auto-farms and modded entities are all processed on the main thread;
- more disk activity — generating chunks with modded structures and ores hits NVMe speed;
- more RAM — modpacks hold huge block and item registries in memory.
That's why cheap oversold hosting falls apart on mods first. A heavy pack needs real CPU headroom and a fast drive, not just a RAM figure on a pricing card — read our breakdown of how much RAM a modded server needs.
One-click modpack installs
Assembling a modded server by hand — laying out mods, matching Forge/Fabric versions, chasing conflicts — is slow and fiddly. Our panel supports automatic installs of popular CurseForge and FTB packs: pick the modpack and version, and the server deploys ready to play. Your own custom pack uploads through the file manager. The process is walked through in our guide on how to install a modpack.
Which loader for mods
The modpack usually dictates the loader — we support every current one:
- Forge — the classic, with the most major packs built for it;
- Fabric — a light, fast loader popular with optimization and tech mods;
- NeoForge — the modern Forge fork that new packs are moving to.
If you're choosing between the two main ones, our Forge vs Fabric guide helps. A special case is heavy tech mods like Create, which lean especially hard on the CPU.
Modpacks love RAM, but they usually bottleneck on CPU and disk speed — worldgen and machine ticks are what eat performance. A plan with a strong Ryzen core and fast NVMe plays smoother than one with a pile of memory on a slow node.
